One Community Volunteer Safety & Health Guidelines
To ensure a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all volunteers, staff, and community members, One Community Fresh Pantries expects all volunteers to follow these safety and health guidelines:
General Health & Hygiene
-
Stay Home if Sick: Do not volunteer if you are experiencing symptoms of illness (fever, cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, or other contagious symptoms). Notify us if you are unable to attend due to illness.

-
Hand Hygiene: Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before, during, and after your shift, especially after handling food, using the restroom, or touching your face. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

-
Face Coverings: Masks are optional unless otherwise noted, but bring one in case guidelines change or you feel more comfortable wearing one.

-
Gloves: Wear disposable gloves when handling unpackaged food or as required by staff. Change gloves regularly and after any contamination.
Food Safety
-
Clean Workspaces: Ensure all surfaces and equipment are clean and sanitized before and after use.

-
Proper Food Handling: Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum in food handling or storage areas. Only do so in designated break areas away from food.

-
Check for Spoilage: Inspect all food for signs of spoilage (expiration dates) or damage before distribution. Do not distribute expired, spoiled, or damaged items.
Site & Personal Safety
-
Punctuality: Arrive on time and check in with the site lead or Shift Captain.

-
Dress Code: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes for safety.

-
Personal Belongings: Keep valuables at home; the organization is not responsible for lost items.

-
Crowd Management: Follow staff instructions for crowd control as needed, especially during busy periods.

-
Emergency Procedures: Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and procedures. Report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to staff immediately.

-
Please read our Code of Conduct.
Respect & Confidentiality
-
Respect Privacy: Do not take photos or videos of clients or other volunteers without explicit permission.

-
Confidentiality: Respect the privacy and dignity of all community members. Do not share personal information about clients or volunteers outside the organization.
